Have you heard the story about Gorgeous George?
Have you heard about Hounslow’s very own Gorgeous George?
A black and white tom cat was bought into our Hounslow surgery by some kind members of the public after they witnessed him being run over by a car! When he arrived he was clearly in a lot of pain and had multiple scrapes and injuries.
He was immediately taken through to our vets to be checked over. His little face was covered in blood and he was quite shaken up. The decision was taken to make him as comfortable as possible by giving him pain relief, fluid therapy and stabilizing his condition before proceeding with any type of surgery.
Sadly he was not wearing a collar, and had no microchip so a search for his owner was launched on our Facebook page. Luckily, in the mean time he twisted our nurses around his little tail and has been enjoying sneaky treats and extra attention ever since!
Surgery Time.
After being with us for a few days, his condition stabilised. The decision was taken by our senior vet Matthew Wilson to fix his broken jaw (we think this took the most impact from the car!) His jaw was broken underneath, to the side and at the top of his pallet. A wire was implanted around the pieces of broken jaw bringing them all back together, under general anaesthetic. Due to the damage in multiple areas this meant he had minimal jaw movement during the recovery phase. Whilst under anaesthetic our surgeons also castrated him, in the hope this would stop him getting into trouble by wandering in the future.
On the slow road to recovery ……
Above is George on recovery from surgery – not impressed that he has to wear a ‘Cone Of Shame’.
Following surgery he was syringe fed three to four times a day by our dedicated nurses, his jaw only allowed an opening of around 1 cm so it took him a while to learn to feed himself.
Surgery Number 2 –
It is now six weeks on from surgery and our nurses have decided he has earned the name Gorgeous George – he has gone from strength to strength, is feeding himself well and seems to be over the worst of his ordeal. On 21st December 2017 George had surgery number two – this time to remove the wire.
Throughout this whole period George has remained pretty chilled out, occasionally a little cranky from all the poking and prodding but that’s understandable! Sadly no one has come forward to claim George, can you offer a quiet home for life? Please contact our Hounslow surgery to meet him today!
Wednesday 21st February 2018. UPDATE : We are pleased to announce that George has now finally found his home for life and left our surgery. George – You will be sorely missed but we wish you all the luck and catnip in the world!
